Meet the San Diego-Point Loma General Manager: Ivan Jimenez

While our Big Blue swim instructors make swim lessons so special for your kids, it's the managers who keep our swim school operations running smoothly day-to-day. Ivan Jimenez is the General Manager at Big Blue Swim School Point Loma. In this interview, Ivan shares his background and gives insight into what it's like to work at Big Blue Swim School. We encourage you to give it a read and say hi to Ivan when Big Blue Point Loma opens!

Point Loma General Manager: Ivan Jimenez

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Oceanside, CA. I currently reside in Vista, CA which is just one city over from San Diego. I went to Rancho Buena Vista High School and attended Miracosta Community College and Palomar Community College.

Prior to my time at Big Blue Swim School, I spent 10 years in the theme park industry at LEGOLAND California Resorts. I most recently worked as the Operations and Sustainability Manager at the SEA LIFE Aquarium. I have a huge passion for creating memorable experiences!

Why are you passionate about Big Blue Swim School?

I’m passionate about Big Blue Swim School because there is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a child learn something new and seeing their family celebrate or smile during that moment. All the values and the mission of Big Blue directly resonate with me, especially the ideas of continuous improvement, compassion, and positivity. We are always growing as human beings and it’s important to realize that so is everyone else. On the journey of growth, it’s important to stay positive even during the hard times.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I have lots of hobbies I like to do in my free time. I’m currently a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I’ve been training since I was in high school. I also teach jiu-jitsu to all ages, and I find it really rewarding! I completed my first rugby season earlier this year. I’m also working on a sports-related podcast that I’m hoping to release by the end of the year.

Where would you visit, anywhere in the world, if it was free?

Iceland. I stopped by one time for a layover, but I didn’t get a chance to explore.

What is your favorite season of the year?

Winter, I love cold weather and have lots of jackets that I need to wear.

Describe yourself in 3 words:

Happy, Confident, & Friendly

What do you love about Big Blue?

Big Blue really feels like a family that is caring and supportive.
