How Swim Lessons Prepare Swimmers for Swim Team

At Big Blue, we believe in more than simply swimming; we nurture a love for the water while instilling essential life skills that can last a lifetime. For parents considering their child's journey to competitive swimming, we ensure a well-rounded approach that prioritizes safety, technique, and confidence.

The Pathway to Success

The ideal journey for aspiring competitive swimmers should begin with mastering water safety, building a strong comfort level in the water, establishing trust of the water and themselves, and then honing fundamental techniques. We strongly believe that teaching swimming as a life skill and developing proper technique should come before simply getting from one side of the pool to the other as quickly as possible. By laying this solid foundation, children are better equipped to excel in competitive swimming with confidence and skill.

Guiding Your Child to Success

While some children may jump straight into things like summer swim teams, if lacking proper lessons first, they may struggle to maintain interest due to inefficient swimming techniques. On the other hand, kids with water apprehension may never even try to pursue competitive swimming due to a lack of proper aquatic education, comfort, and/or confidence.

The Big Blue Advantage

Big Blue plays a vital role in preparing children for competitive swim teams by focusing on safety, comfort, and technique. Our approach emphasizes:

  1. Safety and Trust First: We prioritize water safety and comfort, setting the stage for relaxed and effective learning.
  2. Technique Mastery: Teaching all four strokes ensures swimmers develop proper form and technique from the start of their journey with each stroke and that they won’t have to unlearn improper form they may have picked up without formal lessons. Additionally, we don’t combine technique with distanced swimming to start. Swimmers are taught techniques in much shorter distances than a whole length of a pool, which reinforces correct technique that they can eventually apply to longer distances.
  3. Personalized Attention: With smaller student-to-teacher ratios, we offer focused guidance on technique rather than just speed. Our instructors also focus heavily on positivity and learning about each student so that they can adjust their teaching methods to what works best for each swimmer, fostering a more effective learning environment.
  4. Relaxed Atmosphere: It’s no secret that swim lessons at Big Blue are typically much quieter, focused and controlled than a large swim team practice might be. This quieter atmosphere helps to inspire concentration and learning in our swimmers, further enhancing their grasp of proper techniques.

Embracing the Journey

Our swim lessons are not just for beginners; they also serve as a platform to refine technique for more experienced swimmers aiming for competitive success. Swimming doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing” type of sport! Lessons at Big Blue are an excellent way to enhance skills without committing to a year-round swim team. Whether your child dreams of racing or you just feel it’s important that they master such an essential life skill, Big Blue is the perfect place to start.
