About adaptive swim

WHO IS IT FOR

Children who have physical, cognitive, and sensory needs may require extra time, attention and/or conversations surrounding their specific needs. At Big Blue, we are dedicated to making lessons accessible to all swimmers. Our dedicated and caring instructors are prepared to learn more about and accommodate your child's specific needs. Select locations offer lessons with an instructor certified and trained in the Swim Whisperers® method developed by Swim Angelfish®.

Inclusive Learning

At Big Blue, we provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to learn how to swim, improve their swimming skills, and gain water safety awareness. This empowers all children with the ability to enjoy water safely, opening a world of possibilities for exercise, social interaction, and enjoyment.

Safety is Our #1 Priority

Safety is our top priority: we enforce strict guidelines, keep low instructor-to-child ratios, and outfit our pools with advanced safety and hygiene features. We also equip parents with at-home water-safety tips—so you can trust your child’s well-being is always protected.

Certified Instructors

A growing number of locations have instructors that are certified in The Swim Whisperers® method by Swim Angelfish®, equipping them with specialized strategies to adapt lessons for children of all abilities—including those with sensory, motor, or cognitive challenges—so every swimmer can feel safe, supported, and confident in the water.

FAQs

Our instructors certified in the Swim Whisperers® method are trained specifically on how various sensory needs and outputs can be adapted into the Big Blue curriculum.

For any child, learning to swim is an ongoing process and making progress can vary from child to child depending on a number of factors including age, needs, frequency of lessons and more. Our team will be able to better assess quickness of progress once lessons begin, and continue to update each family throughout lessons.

While we don’t offer any lessons to children younger than 3 months, it’s best to reach out to your local school to understand the best age for your swimmer to begin adaptive swim lessons.
