What to Expect Before, During, and After Swim Lessons

Whether your family is new to swim lessons or you've been away for a while, read below for a preview of what to expect and how to prepare for your kids swim lessons at Big Blue Swim School!

Before

  • Don’t forget to bring a towel and goggles, and a swim cap is recommended for children with hair longer than ear length.
  • For Baby Blue swimmers, goggles are not needed, and all children that are not potty trained are required to wear a water diaper under their swimsuits. A parent or caregiver will need to get in the water with their child during class.
  • Please arrive early with your swimmer already changed into their swimsuit. Check-in will begin 10 minutes before the start of your scheduled swim lesson. A parent or caregiver must check all students in and stay at the facility for the duration of their lesson.
  • We encourage families to continue to have 1 caregiver accompany up to 3 swimmers to lessons in an effort to manage capacity in the lobby, but it is not required.
  • If your child or someone else at home is not feeling well, we ask that you please stay home and utilize our makeup lesson policy.
  • Big Blue Swim Schools in Cook County, Illinois (Chicago-North Center, Niles, Wilmette, and Hoffman Estates) must comply with the vaccine requirement for all individuals 5 years and older. All caregivers and swimmers aged 5 and older must provide documentation of full vaccination, plus identification for individuals aged 16 and older, to enter the facility.

During

  • To better protect the population we serve, children 12 years and younger, we ask that all adults and children three years of age and older continue wearing a mask while inside the school at this time. Masks are required to be worn by all caregivers participating in Baby Blue lessons, and our employees are still required to wear PPE throughout their time in the school.
  • Chairs have been spaced in the lobby to meet social distancing guidelines. Caregivers may not be allowed to view lessons from on the pool deck depending on local guidelines.

After

  • Swimmers exit from a separate pool door to provide a one way flow of traffic on the pool deck.
  • Swimmers are allowed to independently use the showers on the pool deck for a quick rinse before exiting.
  • All high touch and shared surfaces are cleaned throughout the day, as well as an enhanced cleaning protocol at close each evening.

The health and safety of our swimmers, families, and staff are always our top priority at Big Blue. Per the CDC, there is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools. At Big Blue, we keep our water ultra-clean with a state of the art pool filtration system plus a UV light sanitizer to go above and beyond standard pool operation protocol. We continue to monitor CDC guidelines, plus state and local regulations in each market, so please contact your local pool if you have specific questions about requirements in your area.
