Meet the Ann Arbor General Manager: Nate Kushion
While our Big Blue swim instructors make swim lessons so special for your kids, it's the managers who keep our swim school operations running so smoothly day-to-day. Nate Kushion is the General Manager at Big Blue Swim School Ann Arbor. In this interview, Nate shares his background and gives insight into what it's like to work at Big Blue Swim School. We encourage you to give it a read, and say hi to Nate when Big Blue Ann Arbor opens!
What is your background?
I grew up in a small country town just outside of Lansing, Michigan. I spent my childhood playing sports all year round so naturally I have grown up to be a competitive person and love working in an environment where everyone works together to achieve the same goal.
Upon graduating high school, I went on to attend college at Central Michigan University where I entered the workforce in home improvement retail. I had roles started from a part-time associate up to a Store Manager. After a decade of working in retail management, I decided to look for a career where I could take my passion for helping people and working together as a team and pass that along to others. That is what brought me to Big Blue and I couldn't be happier to work for such an amazing company.
Why are you passionate about Big Blue Swim School?
I am so passionate about Big Blue Swim School because it has always been a dream of mine to be in a leadership role where, not only do I get to train and develop a staff, but get to teach children life skills that they will use throughout their entire life!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy traveling, playing golf and volleyball, trying new foods and restaurants, and spending time with friends, family and my dogs.
Think Fast!
Where would you visit, anywhere in the world, if it was free? I'd go back to Hawaii! But honestly, anywhere tropical with warm weather, beaches and golf courses.
What is your favorite season of the year? Spring, Summer and Fall. I love the warm weather.
What do you love about Big Blue? The thing I love the most about Big Blue is their mission to help children and teach them life skills that they will use their entire life. At Big Blue, they have a passion for treating everyone equally no matter what their differences are. That is something I truly believe in myself, so working for a business that values the same thing is another reason I love Big Blue.
