Featured Swimmer: Addison

Meet Addison! Addison’s parents tell us about her swim journey so far.

Addison started at Big Blue about 10 months ago, right before she turned 2. From a young age, she has always been very interested in the water and enjoyed being in it.

We first chose to bring her to Big Blue for a trial because of the small class sizes and large availability of class times. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The facility was clean, pools are warm, and getting in and out of the lesson was easy. It was an easy decision to sign up for lessons.

Addison immediately took to the Baby Blue classes and loved being in the water. The teachers are very hands-on and the classes were very interactive. As Addison continued going to class, she began singing the songs and practicing her skills in the bathtub or in the kiddie pool at home. She teaches her dolls how to do back floats, reach and pull and works on their kicking.

Every teacher we have interacted with at Big Blue has always been very encouraging. They make class fun and work hard with the swimmers during their class time.

Addison has since moved out of Baby Blue and into Guppy 2. She has learned how to blow bubbles to control her breathing, how to push off the wall, and kick to swim for 6 feet. She is now working on holding her breath to retrieve objects and swimming 15 feet without a flotation support. The goals she needs to meet in the Guppy level 2 class are adequate for her abilities and are pushing her in the right direction so that she can soon be an independent swimmer.

We are very pleased with how far she has progressed, how much she has learned, and how much she loves going to swimming classes!

The Gift of Swim from The Little Style File

If you know me in real life or have been an avid TLSF reader than you know that swimming is very important to me. Growing up my dad put a huge emphasis on swimming. We spent every summer either in or on the water. I first enrolled my daughter in her first parent/tot swim class at 6 months. Through the years she took a lot of swim lessons. She had some good and bad experiences at swim lessons. At that point I realized a good swim teacher was the most important aspect of swim lessons…
